Observer Suite
Observer Suite combines the functionality of Observer Standard and Observer Expert plus SNMP device management, RMON compliance, and web reporting. It provides enterprise-level network analysis for LAN, wireless, and low-utilization gigabit networks.

For maximum 64-bit processing, Observer Suite includes a 64-bit core. A 32-bit version is also included.
Observer is the only network analyzer built from a unified code set. This unique advantage, the Distributed Network Analysis (NI-DNA™) architecture, offers scalability and seamless integration across the entire Observer family. Administrators need to learn only one interface to monitor across topologies, locations, and technologies.
Gain Greater Visibility
Observer Suite offers network administrators the ability to optimize devices with a full SNMP management console. Monitor different segments with RMON collection consoles. View statistics and share Observer results from any web browser with web report publishing capabilities.
SNMP Device Management

Observer Suite offers a single solution for multi-vendor hardware networks, including a remote console for SNMP-compliant devices anywhere on your LAN/WAN or connected by the Internet.
SNMP features:
- Obtain multiple views of device data
- View both readable and writeable SNMP objects
- Monitor notifications triggered by SNMP traps
- Maintain compatibility with all SNMP versions
- Configure triggers and alarms for SNMP data
- Extensive SNMP reporting and trending:
- Report SNMP data in real time
- Collect data for baseline comparisons
- Share findings through custom charts, tables, lists, and graphical objects (forms)
Web Publishing and Web Reporting

All you need is a web browser to view data and generate reports for non-Observer users (other employees or outside consultants). You control the level of access. Share reports across the company and automate report delivery. Obtain current and historical data as well as usage trends based upon specific stations.
Reporting benefits:
- Share reports company wide
- Publish network “weather reports” for your corporate intranet/extranet
- Follow developing trends to prepare for upgrades or expansion activities
- Drill down into any report for root-cause analysis
- Quickly publish reports with ready-made or custom reporting options
RMON Device Management

RMON is an industry standard for traffic management and packet-level data collection from multi-segment LANs. Observer Suite fully supports RMON and HCRMON standards and can monitor any RMON-controlled device including routers, switches, servers, or hardware probes. Configure alarms to warn of impending problems.
Key RMON metrics:
- Packets received/sent/dropped
- Statistics by host
- Statistics by conversation
- Lists of events
Full XML/SOAP Support
Obtain access to error, capacity, and historical network data for any application that supports XML or SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol).
Custom Decode Kit
Add custom, proprietary, or additional protocols to Observer decodes, including wireless.
System Requirements
Minimum and Recommended System Requirements
The following chart displays recommended Observer Standard, Observer Expert, Observer Suite, and Observer Reporting Server minimum and recommended hardware requirements. As with any high-performance network analysis product, the more RAM, and the faster the processor the better.
The minimum system requirements are:
- Dual core Pentium class processor
- 2GB RAM
- Windows XP
The recommended system requirements are:
- Quad core Pentium class processor
- 8GB RAM
- Windows 64-bit operating system
Observer may run on systems with less power and RAM than those listed above, but Network Instruments does not support configurations with less than the minimum stated requirements.
